22 Ships by Chef Antonio Oviedo Relocates to PMQ Central, Unveiling Expanded Space and Enhanced Menu

17th September 2024 – Hong Kong
JIA Group’s celebrated Spanish restaurant, 22 Ships, has officially reopened in its new location at PMQ Central, Staunton Street, SoHo. Known for its rustic yet refined Spanish cuisine, 22 Ships has been a neighborhood favorite since 2012. Under the leadership of Madrid-born Chef Antonio Oviedo, the new venue brings a fresh, expanded look and an enhanced food and drink offering that promises an unforgettable dining experience.

A New Home for 22 Ships at PMQ Central

The new 22 Ships location boasts a much larger capacity, now accommodating up to 60 guests, a significant upgrade from the previous 25 at its Ship Street location. The space features three dining areas, a private room, and an outdoor terrace, making it ideal for large groups and gatherings. Designed by JIA Group, the new interiors are inspired by traditional Spanish bodegas, exuding a cool, laid-back charm. Warm tones, Mediterranean forms, and rustic elegance create a relaxed atmosphere perfect for socializing over drinks and small bites.

JIA Group founder Yenn Wong shares her vision for the restaurant’s new chapter, stating, “At 22 Ships, we aim to recreate the vibrant and social dining atmosphere reminiscent of Spanish bodegas. The inviting new and much expanded location fosters a space where guests can unwind, enjoy drinks, and socialize over multi-regional Spanish dishes.”

A Culinary Journey Through Spain

Chef Antonio Oviedo has crafted an expanded menu featuring 40 dishes that showcase the diversity of Spanish cuisine. With 12 new additions, the menu offers something for every palate. New highlights include the Marmitako (HK$178), a savory dish of Spanish mackerel and red pepper sofrito, and Txuleta (HK$248), Iberico pork ribs with Romesco sauce and leeks.

Signature favorites like Cochinillo (Segovian roasted suckling pig) start at HK$488, and the Carabineros XXL (HK$1,198), a large red prawn paella, remain staples on the menu. Other must-try dishes include the Oyster Salpicon (HK$78), Uni Toast (HK$288) with creamy sea urchin and rusa salad, and the melt-in-your-mouth Rubia Gallega dry-aged beef (HK$788).

22 Ships takes pride in sourcing premium ingredients directly from Spain, including rare finds like Arbequina Olive Oil from Castillo de Canena in Andalusia, deep-sea Carabineros prawns, and Monte Enebro cheese from Valle del Tiétar. These high-quality ingredients enhance the authenticity and flavor of each dish, creating a true taste of Spain.

A Focus on Spanish Wines and Social Drinks

The beverage program at 22 Ships has also been elevated, with an impressive selection of over 50 Spanish wines, ranging from Reserva to Gran Reserva. Highlights include the Tempranillo, Viña Tondonia (HK$1,148) from Rioja and the elegant Alion Vega Sicilia (HK$1,780) from Ribera Del Duero. For those looking for something more casual, the drinks menu also offers a variety of sangrias, artisanal beers, and vermouth-based cocktails like the Marianito (HK$98) and Rebujito (HK$88).

With its expanded offerings and no service charge policy, 22 Ships promises to continue its legacy as a go-to destination for relaxed Spanish dining in Hong Kong. Reservations are now accepted, providing guests with more flexibility to enjoy this vibrant culinary experience.
