Mumbai’s food lovers have a reason to celebrate with Burma Burma’s newest outlet at Oberoi Mall, Goregaon, opened in early 2024. Following successful launches across Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad in 2023, co-founders Ankit Gupta and Chirag Chhajer are delighted to bring this celebrated culinary experience back to Mumbai, where Burma Burma’s journey began nearly a decade ago. Designed by Minnie Bhatt Design, the spacious 3000 sq. ft. restaurant combines contemporary aesthetics with classic Burmese elements, reflecting Burma’s rich culture and heritage.
Ambiance and Design: A Tribute to Burmese Heritage
The interiors of Burma Burma Oberoi Mall are an eclectic blend of colonial-style elements like arches, stained glass, and traditional Burmese art. Pagoda motifs, hand-painted wall art, and vintage accents transport diners to Burma, creating a visually captivating experience that immerses guests in the ambiance of this unique Southeast Asian country.
A Menu Steeped in Burmese Tradition
With a broad selection of dishes, Burma Burma’s menu captures the essence of Burmese tradition while catering to the diversity of Indian palates. From family recipes passed down through generations to creative interpretations inspired by nearly a decade of research across Burma, the restaurant showcases flavors from migrant food traditions, street fare, and homestyle cooking.
Start with appetizers like Samuza Hincho, a tangy broth with mini samosas, or the signature Mandalay Laphet Thoke, a fermented tea leaf salad with fresh vegetables and nuts, offering a unique mix of crunch and robust flavors. New small plates such as the Crunchy Spring Roll Salad and Triple Mushroom Palata add fresh dimensions to the menu, while mainstays like Oh No Khowsuey—a creamy coconut noodle soup topped with crispy shallots—remain favorites.
For dessert, options like Street-Style Burmese Falooda with basil seeds, black grass jelly, and sticky rice, and Tagu Piyan, a coconut panna cotta, provide a sweet finish that pays homage to classic Burmese treats. International dessert selections curated by Chef Vinesh Johny include the innovative Saffron & Samuza Cheesecake, which combines saffron-infused cheesecake with pistachio creme and mango sorbet, and the Rangoon Baked Milk, a delicate blend of house-baked milk, vanilla ganache, and raspberry gel.
Signature Beverages and Artisan Teas
The beverage program at Burma Burma is equally impressive, offering a variety of teas, lemonades, kombucha, and bubble teas, each crafted with a nod to Burmese tradition. Try the Pomegranate and Mandarin Spritzer, Yuzu Bubble Tea, or Spiced Ginger Noble Cooler for a refreshing complement to your meal. The restaurant also offers a range of retail products, including Burmese spice mixes, sauces, and teas, so guests can recreate the flavors of Burma at home.
