Roastown Global Grill Opens in Kochi: A World of Flavors Awaits at Edappally’s New Culinary Hotspot

Kochi’s culinary landscape has a new entrant with the opening of Roastown Global Grill in Edappally, a restaurant that pays homage to the art of rotisserie and international grilling. This new venture from Joshy George, who first launched Roastown in Thrissur four years ago, offers an expansive menu with curated global dishes and a focus on live culinary experiences. Following the success in Thrissur, Joshy brings Roastown’s unique offerings to Kochi with a larger 165-seater space, featuring three live kitchens, a pizzeria, and a chef’s studio.

A Culinary Tour Around the World

At Roastown, the menu takes guests on a global tour, offering a selection of dishes from regions as varied as Argentina, Morocco, Vietnam, and France. Start your meal with Meat Rib Pho, a delicate Vietnamese soup brimming with rice noodles and vegetables, perfect for a light yet flavorful appetizer. The grill menu includes options like Argentinian Basa Grill, marinated to perfection and cooked to bring out the subtlety of the fish.

Executive Director George Joshy, son of founder Joshy George, explains, “We wanted to offer dishes that are not common here yet accessible for local palates.” The menu was refined through extensive research, with consultant chef Mohammed Siddiq overseeing a process that involved multiple iterations to ensure authenticity and flavor.

Popular International Starters and Comfort Classics

Roastown’s starter menu includes Gochujang Bulgogi, a Korean favorite with South Asian spices, and Australian Bacon-Wrapped Prawns, made with chicken bacon and served with wasabi mayo and tomato chili salsa. The popular Korean Fried Chicken appeals to local fans of spicy, crispy fare. The in-house bread selections, like the Khachapuri—a cheese-filled Georgian bread resembling pizza—offer a unique twist with fillings such as minced chicken, beef, and seafood.

For those looking for rice-based comfort dishes, Roastown’s Potlucky—a Spanish-inspired rice dish with peas, mushrooms, and pepper, slow-cooked in a cast-iron pot—is a must-try, blending Spanish and South Asian flavors with a side of jalapeno, cilantro cream, and fries.

A Taste of Persia with Chef Nasrin Karimi

Roastown’s Chef’s Studio hosts culinary events with global chefs, starting with Persian Chef Nasrin Karimi. As part of the “Taste of Persia” event, she introduces patrons to Shiraz-style cooking with dishes like Shiraz Prawns, slow-braised in a rich herb sauce, and Zeytoon Parvadeh, a vibrant mix of olives, walnuts, and pomegranate. Her five-course tasting menu includes Iranian classics like Koobideh Kebab, Chicken Zereshk Polo, and the decadent Tar Halva for dessert, making it a must-visit for culinary explorers.

Creative Mocktails and Desserts to Complement the Meal

The mocktail bar at Roastown serves inventive drinks like the KL 7 Martini, an ode to Kerala’s flavors with passionfruit, lemongrass, and lemon juice. The presentation is as dramatic as the flavors, arriving with a caramelized passionfruit garnish. For dessert, try the Wine-Poached Seckel Pear, a refreshing creation with non-alcoholic wine, quinoa bread, and banana caramel ice cream.

An Immersive Dining Experience

With three live kitchens, an open Asian kitchen named Flat Wok, and a chef’s studio, Roastown creates an interactive dining experience where guests can witness the culinary process. Roastown’s vision is to make dining an educational and immersive experience, where the restaurant staff explains each dish and its origin.
